We are getting back into the swing of things as far as entertaining at home. Being natural homebodies, we’ve grown to like entertaining at home for the simple fact that we never have to leave the house. However, I am no Martha Stewart and so when it comes to creating floral arrangements, it is something I usually leave to the professionals, unless of course they can help me create my own. We’ve had the chance to speak to Caroline Bailly, Owner of L’Atelier Rouge in NYC about how to create your own floral centerpieces when entertaining at home and her tips were so simple, even I can attempt it. Here is what she suggested.
We’d like to suggest doing something simple and deconstructed that won’t give the host or hostess any added stress while entertaining. Getting bunches of coordinating flowers (they can be monochromatic and one kind of flower, monochromatic in different flowers, etc.) and stick one or two stems in small bud vase style containers and create a table runner. You can adjust the whole look as you see fit and really tailor it to the room you’re hosting your party in and also the size of your table. Plus, if guests want to take them home they’re easy to carry, and you don’t need to worry about creating a ‘perfect centerpiece’. It can go rustic or sophisticated based on the containers you use, and the host has pretty much total creative license.
So to sum it up, Bailly suggests we stay in season, stick to one color story, possibly stay with just one type of flower, and ultimately just have fun with it. Like I said, so simple, I could do it.
I personally love carnations so maybe I can try that. What type of flowers do you like to use at home?
