I’ve always wanted to create a space for guests in my basement. There was a full bath, a bedroom, lounging area, a home office, and a huge storage room. Because it was already “finished”, it was always last on our list…until it flooded. While then a bit of a mess, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we were able to update it to our liking. Now I’ve decided, I didn’t need such a large office because it has become more of a catch-all and that it could be sleeping quarters and an office for when guests come to stay since the one bedroom down there was now a playroom. Honestly, no one really stayed but my dad when he came to visit once, twice at most, a year. I always thought I had all the time in the world to finish it as the possibility of my father dying anytime soon never crossed my mind, not once. I don’t know why really. My father was an ox to me…he would last long. I guess when it comes to matters of the heart, you never really know. Anyhow, it a lesson in putting things off, which I tend to do often but even still I put the basement back at the bottom of my “to-do” list even if it was the only area closest to being done in this house. But now we are having a guest. My girlfriend from NYC is coming to stay with us and although it is for one night, I don’t want her having to go from our “guest suite” up to the second floor to shower and get ready when there is a full bath just steps away.
Yesterday we finally had the plumber come out but there is still so much to do in terms of decorating, and still creating the sleeping quarters, oh did I mention my girlfriend arrives on Sunday? The bed is in but the holes where the heaviest of built ins use to be still need patching, and the wall needs to be repainted. I had decided that I don’t want to rush just to have it done, so it won’t be fully ready in time. I’m okay with that and I know my girlfriend wouldn’t care either way so I can take my time styling it just right after. Meanwhile, here are some posts from the interwebs that serve up a bit of inspiration.
I’m liking the color scheme of this new hotel in Paris, especially the very small hint of blush in one of the room.
With everything that we have going on at home, I find myself having to clean up as soon as I finished cleaning. These are pretty good tips for keeping everything in order.
Tip number one on how the French decorate their homes is something I need to embrace, I’m not a perfectionist at all but even still.
Okay, so maybe I am a bit obsessed with how OP dresses, these tips on how to apply her style to your home make a lot of sense. Can she do a home line already?
Time to kick off the weekend, try and get some work done in this guest room, and to the farmer’s market with three little monsters in tows.
