Between the humidity and the heat, Summer time can be rough on your hair. In order to survive summer extremes, I’ve been relying on a few hairstyles to help keep my hair up and cool while still looking, well, cool. Here are three easy and refreshing hairstyles for summer.
Inverted 3 Strand Side Braid.
This has been my go-to for the most part because it is simple and I can do it without a mirror. This is basically what you would call a thicker version of an inverted french or cornrow but it is mainly because my hair is super thick. When I am done with the braid, I basically tuck it back under itself.
This is a great way to keep your hair out of your face. You need to do a very deep side part and do a three strand inverted braid. You can do it tight (might last an extra day this way) or loosen it up like I did for a carefree vibe. Leave your hair down or throw it up in a ponytail to keep cool.
Upside Down French.
Top knots, top of the head buns, whatever you call them, are the lazy must haves for mamas like me. After combing my hair, I flip my head over, loosely french braid to the top of my head and create a bun. Simple.
Sure, blowouts are fun, and having wild carefree curls are also but when I am chasing three little ones in the summer heat, the last thing I want to do is worry about sweating out my hairstyle.
I have to start with clean hair. Because my hair is thick and curly, I have been co-washing. The secret to co-washing however, is that after 3-4 co-washes, you have to do a good cleaning. Not just because it smells delicious, but Garnier Whole Blends Refreshing Shampoo with Green Apple & Green Tea gives me that deep down feel without dulling out my hair. I follow up with the Green Apple & Green Tea conditioner that is super light as anything heavier would weight down my hair at this point after co-washing before. I am left with lightweight, bouncy hair that shines and looks alive.
