I announced that I would wear a bikini this summer, a mere hours after I gave birth. I also ordered two lunches and two dinners shortly thereafter and was ecstatic when my girlfriend showed up with a pizza for “my husband”. Let’s just say that my words and my actions are at times conflicting to say the least. One piece bathing suits are viewed as things moms wear but like mom hair and high-waisted mom jeans, I’ve embraced the looked delegated to mainly just mothers as frumpy and unkempt as only we are. So I packed up my bag with the essentials to lounge out by the water. These are my mom-approved must haves.
I search for a long time for a one piece that I loved and found to be priced right. I wasn’t surprised when I ordered this one that is was out of stock in all sizes, except in my size. But I promise you this, this isn’t a ‘mom of suburbia’ pool friendly type of swimsuit . That high cut brief and low plunge top was causing heart palpitations in the Mister. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one feeling myself.
I have one cover-up but I am not crazy about it so I decided to use this striped lightweight sweater that was picked up on sale at Zara as a birthday gift from my husband instead. When it is no longer beach season, this will be my everyday go-to with absolutely everything. I am so in love.

I am big on sunglasses, in fact, I prefer affordable options over designer pairs since the time I left a pair of Marc Jacobs in the bathroom at Navy Pier, months after sitting on a pair of Gucci’s that I bought to replace the Juicy Couture ones I had scratched. You get the idea. So naturally, discovering EyeBuyDirect* was a heaven sent. With sunglasses starting from $20, it wasn’t hard to pick more than a few favorites with the same (if not better) quality than those name brand options but ultimately, these won my heart.
It is hot so obviously, that I have to carry my deodorant with me. However, a while back, my husband and I switched to an all-natural deodorant. Yup, I am jumping on the green beauty train. I have tried a few but Piper Wai so far it has worked well, although I wish it came in a stick because laziness.
Also, I switched the kid’s sunblock to an all-natural one with a high rating but was still using a chemical based sunscreen myself. Mad Hippie** offers the same protection, glides on smoothly, doesn’t clog or irritate and best of all, it is mineral based. After all, what is the point of protecting your skin from harmful rays if you are doing so with harmful chemicals?
Momma isn’t planning on getting in the water. Vacations, trips to the pools, anytime we are by the water, it is daddy who is having a splash with the kiddos. My vacation is sitting on the edge with a magazine or a book. A break of sorts considering I bought this book by Garance Dore a few weeks ago as a birthday gift to myself and have barely made a dent in it. But the small dent already has me dying to finish it. Cute, fast, and inspiring.
*EyeBuyDirect was kind enough to send me a pair to try.
** Madd Hippie sent me a sample to try and I loved it.
