This time last year (OMG this kid is really about to be one?!) right before the baby was born, my skin was a mess. Or so I thought until I actually gave birth. My hormones were out of control in ways I couldn’t imagine. My regular beauty routine was no longer working and no matter how much face oil I used, I was still super dry and broken out. I tried scrubs, peels, new night creams, new face washes, the latest technology and yet when I went back to the bare basics, did I truly see an improvement.
Get Your Sleep On
Motherhood is exhausting but did you know the lack of sleep can wreck your skin? Waking up every 2 hours and being up by 5am and in bed by 11pm was wearing me down. And it showed in my dry, broken out face and my scaly eczema inflamed scalp. Happy to report, I am in bed most days before 10 and up by 6:30. If I’m up at night, it is only one and briefly.
Try All-Natural (DIY)
I’ve become obsessed with this green beauty blog. So far, I’ve stuck to basics that I have already known, scrubbing with coffee grounds, moisturizing with coconut oil, but I’ve also tried my own toothpaste and face masks*. My skin doesn’t just look better, but it feels better as well.
Drink of Choice
Hydrating was key when I was nursing but not much has changed. I have to drink a lot of water during the day. While water alone doesn’t do wonders for your skin, it does for your health and help increase the benefits of your skincare.
All skin is different. What works for one may not work for all. Speak to your dermatologist before trying something new.
