ABOUT THE BLOG
Lover of neutral colors, especially black, modest style, second-hand finds, daydreams, and red lipstick stains on coffee cups. My creative endeavors pull me in so many different directions but I’m most at home as a makeup artist, beauty writer, and as a mother. Monticello Street Blog, named after the street I grew up on in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, is a semi-personal journal of my own growth in my career, in my home, and in life with splashes of beauty, style, and motherhood.
Yanira Garza is a style & beauty expert, living and playing in Chicago. For the past fourteen years, she has worked and continues to work as a makeup artist for some of the biggest brands in the industry like Chanel, Shiseido, YSL, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier to name a few. Professionally trained and graduating with a BFA in Fashion Design, excelling in pattern design as well as merchandise management, Yanira has worked in luxury retail management and showroom sales. After graduation, Yanira became an agency signed Fashion Stylist and has worked with top models from Elite, Ford and BMG, actor Freddie Rodriguez, Cafe Magazine, Chicago Magazine, The Palmer House Hilton, Ulta, InStyle Magazine and Latino Fashion Week as one of the founding board members. In 2011, she launched her semi-personal and bi-cultural blog focusing on her work in the industry as a young mom and as a venue to help others with styling tips and beauty advice. Also in 2011, she became the first Latina Spokesperson and Fashion Expert for Old Navy, doing commentary on Univision, CNN, Telemundo, NY1 and even with a billboard in Times Square and Las Vegas. In 2012 she was featured as a “Favorite Latina Blogger” Latina Magazine and again in 2013 as the “Top Ten Beauty Bloggers” to watch. Currently she freelances doing commentary, as a beauty contributor for digital publications as well as a style writer sharing tips on living the good life one designer heel at a time. After the birth of her second child, Yanira gave up city life for the luxury of closet space and greenery in a nearby suburb with her young family. She spends her free time renovating her home and traveling with her husband and now, three kids.
